A Weekend of Exhaustion and Soreness

On Thursday, May 13, Clint and I went over to the house because we could start painting. Originally our plan was to caulk and spackle on Thursday, Prime on Friday and paint the rest on Saturday and be done Saturday. Boy were we wrong about that plan!

Around 5:30 or so on Thursday, we started to spackle, caulk and mask. While we were doing so, our nephews came over and hassled Clint. They wanted to help too, so they decided to dust Clint. It was so cute!! We love them!

As the hours passed, and darkness came, we weren't even close to being finished caulking, masking and spackling. So we decided to finish the front room and prime it really quick so one room would be finished. Now that I think about it, that plan doesn't make much sense. Actually, I think it was because it was getting dark and we only had 1 floodlight to work with and we couldn't mask and spackle and caulk with 1 floodlight. Anyways, we primed the front room.

Because we were behind "schedule", Clint decided to stay home from work on Friday and finish caulking and spackling. He was also planning to have everything primed like we had planned. Luckily for me, and unfortunately for Clint, I had a professional develpment training to go to on Friday so I was unable to help prime. However, when I got back from my training, I came to the house and found it completely primed and they were getting out the wall color to paint. It turns out that Nova, Clint's sister, came over around 12:30 on Friday and helped Clint caulk and prime. Clint's dad also helped clean up trash, caulk and vacuumed. Clint probably wouldn't have finished priming when he did if Nova and his dad didn't help. Thanks Nova and Bryan!

Saturday morning came and poor Clint's ankles and hands were swollen and he was sore, but we had to get it finished. We were on a time crunch. They would only give us 5 days to finish painting and everyday after that they would charge $45.

On Saturday, we got so much done! My mom and sister, Jessica, came over and helped paint the trim. Tyler came and helped sanded and painted the bathrooms and closets and rooms. Major help! Bryan helped clean up more trash and he swept so no dust would get on the painted walls. Nova was also back to help paint, but this time she brought Chris, her husband. Clint's mom, Nancy, helped with a lot of stuff as well.

We also ran into a LOT of troubles that day! So part of the sweat equity agreement was that SunView Homes would give us a voucher to Sherwin Williams and we could go buy paint with that money. So when we went to Sherwin Williams a week ago, we talked to a guy that was pretty annoying. Anyways, he told us that we would need 10 gallons of primer, which we bought, and 5 gallons of wall paint, which we also bought. We also decided to buy 3 more gallons of wall paint to be on the safe side. Well, that guy must have been off his rocker because that 8 gallons of wall paint barely made it through the front room, kitchen, hallway and the master bedroom and we still had 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms and closets left! What an idiot!

Luckily for us, the Dean-family friend, Donald, was there to save the day. Donald is amazing! He used to own his own painting company, and now works for a company painting. So therefore, he has the bomdiggity rollers, the sprayer and the skills needed to paint a house. If it weren't for Donald, I really don't know if we would have finished our whole house in time with work and all. He painted the second coat on all of the bedrooms, kitchen and front room. He painted the hallway and all the ceilings - although we painted the first coat and he covered the second coat. But he was super fast!!! He painted our ceiling in 15 minutes!! And they are vaulted!

Anyways, back to the problem, we were out of paint and we had already used our $600 voucher they gave us, which they didn't give us enough money for paint. So Donald had a 5 gallon bucket of cream-colored paint that he had left over from a previous job. So he gave us that bucket. He told us that it would cover the 2 bathrooms, 2 bedrooms and closets and we'd be good to go. So we got to work on that. (Below is Donal painting the ceiling with his 5 gallon bucket of paint he brought)

This is the finished result of the bedroom that has the paint that Donald brought us. Not a bad color, I'm glad it worked. It looks great during the day! Nice and light and bright. Not dark at all!

So after Donald left, we ran into more trouble! We didn't have enough of that cream-colored paint that Donald brought over for the closets! We didn't know what to do! So we had another miracle! Bryan, Clint's dad, happened to find a bucket of off-white paint down in his basement. So we used that paint to paint the closets, pantry, laundry room, and linen closet. Wow what a day! We were so bugged because there was NO WAY we would have ever had enough money to paint the whole house with $600! Oh well, atleast it worked out. Clint and I also bought paint, with our own money might I add, to do accent walls. So below are pictures of the accent walls.

The front room accent wall - a deep olive green Clint and I painted this on Sunday night around 9:30. It had been quite a day/weekend.

The bedroom red accent wall. This wall is a little deeper of a red, although the picture makes it look very similar to the kitchen accent wall.

So as you might have guessed, we did not finish on Saturday like we planned. So Clint and I had to come on Sunday to paint our doors, and finish the green and red (bedroom) accent wall. So we got there Sunday and Donald also came and sprayed our doors. What a nice guy! Because he sprayed then, the doors look so nice and smooth! Thanks Donald! However, we kept finding small things we needed to do and all the prep work to spray the doors took longer than expected. So we were there for a long time. We were there until midnight on Sunday night! We were so tired and ready to be done!

On Sunday, we had a lot of little things we needed to finish, and one of them was painting the attic trim, so I did that while, the first coat of the green accent wall was drying.

During the day on Sunday, Clint and his dad (which came and helped us with all those tedious tasks) took off all the masking on the windows, and Bryan caulked the windows. He does a good job!

So needless to say, Clint and I had an exhausting weekend and because of it we are now dead to the world and extremely sore. However, I really like how the house turned out and it will just make me love it more because of all the hard work we put into it. Of course we have a lot of little things we need to do, and a lot of touch ups, but we won't worry about that until we are closed and the construction people are done making dings on our walls. Thanks to all those who helped us: Jessica, Mom (Joyce), Nancy, Bryan, Nova, Chris, Donald, Tyler, Lacero, and Russell! We appreciate all the help you've given us! And thanks Dad (Scott), Donal, Bryan, Nova, Chris, for lending us your stuff to use!
