I always thought food photography would be easy, so that's why I decided to take a picture of the soup I made for dinner tonight. Well, turns out food photography needs a little more than just dump in the bowl and be on your way. It's about the look, not just the lighting. I have a hard time making it look appetizing.
I guess if I really wanted to make this look more professional, I would have a different background, because my yellow wood table top isn't that cool. Maybe put a place mat underneath it or something like that (but I don't own those). Or if I had a white dish, that would look cool underneath it, with the spoon laying to the side. Then I also would have topped the soup with cheese and some type of green garnish, but I don't have green garnishes laying around, and I would have put some cheese on top, but Clint was behind me saying "I'm hungry". So I stopped. Oh well - good times.
I made cheesy potato soup for dinner tonight. It's one of my favorites! And it's really easy. Whenever I come across a potato soup on pinterest, I skip over it and think "I already have the best potato soup". So here it is - to share with all of you. Thanks to my mother in law for the recipe.
Here it is:
10-12 potatoes, peeled, cubed and boiled.
1/2 medium onion
1 cup milk
1/2 block velveeta cheese (the big blocks, or you could put a whole little block in)
Bacon and broccoli are optional
Peel, cut and put the potatoes in a pot. Barely cover it with water. I have come to find out that if I cut the potatoes a little bigger, it makes the soup more chowder-like. But if I cut them small, it's more soupy. I lilke the chowder kind. I think it's because as the bigger cubes boil, and I stir them, they break apart because they are bigger, which makes the starchiness get everywhere. Yum. I also like to add a little bit of chicken bouillon in the water (I honestly just eyeball how much to put in) to add some flavor. Then once the potatoes are at the softness that you like, add the onion, milk, and velveeta cheese and let it all cook/melt. When the cheese is almost all melted, then you can put in the broccoli and bacon. It really is so tasty!
I love this recipe too!! Thank you for sharing it with me months ago!! I'm making it for our Stake Young Women Personal Progress Recognition Dinner next week! YUM!! I wish I had some now!
