Day 103 - Before/After

About 5 weeks ago, Clint started a....Diet.  I guess you would call it that. He had been wanting to lose weight for a while, but felt like he was going to have to count calories (which he hates doing), or exercise his brains out and start eating breakfast (which he never does eat breakfast). Either way, he just didn't want to put up with all that, and I don't blame him. It is kind of annoying to do all that.

So he heard about this diet called the Feast/Fasting Diet (or alternate day fasting diet) from a coworker - a man coworker. I guess this diet is relatively new, and it's been more popular in Europe. So this is how it works. You choose two days out of your week where you "fast". It's not your typical fasting like we do once a month. Basically you can drink as much water as often as you like, but you only eat 600 calories for the day. You can spread those calories throughout the whole day, or as Clint likes to do, he saves them all for dinner. Which is perfect for him because he hated eating breakfast in the first place, and who cares if he skips lunch. It's very easy for him not to eat....until he comes home. The two days cannot be consecutive, so he mainly does it on Tuesdays and Thursdays where he only eats 600 calories, and then all the other days you can eat whatever you want, but still try to eat semi-normal. Clint tries really hard not to overeat on those days, because you don't need to compensate for the lost calories the day before.

There was a documentary on it, and we watched it, and it was very interesting. This doctor tried it for 5 weeks to see if it would help his weight and his cholesterol/diabetes/blood pressure levels. This doctor was in his 40's or so. Well, he did it for 5 weeks, and he lost 15 lbs doing it and all those levels, plus some others that I don't remember, were all normal. It was amazing! And fasting really is healthy for you - scientifically speaking.

So Clint tried it, it sounded easy to him. And it doesn't even require working out, although he would still do some strength training here and there like push ups, weight lifting, etc. He does want muscles. He did it for 5 weeks, just like the documentary, and he lost 13 lbs! Isn't that amazing? We measured his inches around his chest and waist and he lost about 1 1/2 inches on each of those.

I took a before and after picture, the after one is obviously my picture for the day. But I'm really proud of him, and there is a huge difference. He likes it, he thinks it's easy. It's definitely not for everyone, but I think I'll try it when I'm done being pregnant and nursing. (because obviously there are certain situations where this would NOT be a good diet like pregnancy, nursing, if you're underweight, etc). Great job Clint!

And no, he is not sticking out his stomach in the before, he just said he was relaxing it. He still is going to do this and he wants to still lose 20-30 more pounds. And once he is at his target weight, he's only going to do the fast once a week to maintain it. That's the thing about diets, you have to be able to do that for the rest of your life. South beach and all those others are not diets that you can do for the rest of your life. I just am so amazed at the before and after.
