Day 83 - Family Pictures

No they're not my family pictures, but I was able to take my Brother and Sister-in-law's family pictures. You see, Eileen's family (she's my sister-in-law), is from Nebraska and they all were down here for Leo's baby blessing. I guess this has been the first time everyone has been together in 2 years, so they wanted a picture. I was happy to do it. I've always wondered what taking pictures of large groups would be like. Well, now I know. My pictures are mainly of one person - Jonas, so I know all the settings for that.

So it was interesting, and I learned a lot.

First, I completely understand why photographers want to take pictures in the morning or evening. This picture was taken midday and the sun was directly above us. Which meant that there was no shade to be found anywhere (like shade from the building, etc)  except the shade from the trees, and that is not the most ideal for pictures. As you can see, there are spots in this picture where the sun is shining through the trees, and it's really bright! Like on people's faces and clothing.  But, what do you do? It was kind of a last minute thing, and this was the best we could do given the situation and time. But it still looks fine, I think. Big family, huh?

And then one with the grandkids. Wow, trying to get little kids to look at the camera is quite impossible. Little kids these ages. Oh well. Now you know why most of my pictures of Jonas are of him not looking at the camera and in the moment, sometimes that's just easier.

Now this one is of the kids. You think grown adults would understand looking at the camera, etc. I took 7 pictures of them, and this was the only one where everyone had their eyes open and looking at me. Wow, next time I'll take more, and be constantly reminding people to look at me - and hold the blinking. But again, it is great and fine for the timing and situation.

So that was fun. I'll definitely do things differently next time I do family pictures. I really like trying all types of photography, it's really fun to learn new stuff. Keeps this stay-at-home mom on her toes.
