Day 213 - A fun & Easy Activity

I saw this article the other day about "5 Ways We're Making Parenting Harder". It's really funny! You should read it here.  Well, one of the ways is labeled Pinterest. It's so funny! The way the author words it, just cracks me up! Basically they say that it's not enough to just make your children lunches anymore, but pinterest makes you feel as if you need to put tatoos on the bananas in the lunch to make the lunch more fun. Read it, it's so much funnier than I'm making it.

But it's true! When I first started pinterest, I pinned all these fun activities that I wanted to do with Jonas to help with his learning and make life fun for him, etc.  But once I got reading them and thinking about all the prep work and all the stuff you need to have on hand to do those activities, I was like Forget it! I'm too practical of a person to prep an activity that will only last maybe 5 minutes with Jonas.

And you know what? I feel like just playing with him and talking to him about things that we are doing, answering his questions and reading books helps him learn all he needs to know. I don't need to go this extra mile to do crazy activities with him. So here is an activity, that is cheap, easy, and Jonas loves it!

Grab a bunch of of beads (I had a ton from teaching that I brought home when I was done teaching) and put them in a bucket. Notice the old ice cream bucket? Who cares if it's a cutsey bucket that is all decorated with fabric or mod podged with cute scrapbook paper, just put it in some type of container and play. Eat that Pinterest! Ha ha!

Jonas loves scooping out the beads, pouring them into different cups. We talk about the different colors. We separate and find beads that are similar to the rest. There are sparkly beads in there, and he always finds the sparkly beads and puts them into a separate pile, and then we talk about those colors. Seriously, he loves it, and he's learning and having fun and it took me all of 2 seconds to prepare. Love it!

You can't really tell, but there is a clear sparkly bead stuck to his finger. He just loves the sparkly beads and has to find all of them.

  1. "eat that pinterest!" love it! But I totally agree why spend extra money and time into something that your kids aren't even going to care about?
I love my little nephew, he's definitely the cutest kid ever!
