Day 294 - Potty Training

Clint went to Walmart today to return some stuff and I figured he should buy Jonas underwear while he was at Walmart. We're almost out of diapers for him and I don't want to buy more. While at Walmart, Clint called and asked Jonas what kind of underwear he wanted. He chose the batman/superman underwear. We weren't quite planning on potty training yet, but once Clint got home, Jonas wanted that underwear on. We basically jumped right into potty training without being prepared for it. I wanted to get stickers to make a sticker chart, and get some of his favorite candy and put it in a jar for anytime he sits on the toilet, etc. All these things I've read about.

Ya, I didn't have any of that ready. But we had cheetos on hand, so we gave him a cheeto any time he sat on the toilet, and I made a potty training chart later in the day and found some smiley face stickers around the house. That seemed to suffice.

First off, can I just say that potty training sucks? I hate it. I hate taking him to the toilet every half hour. And being worried that he's going to pee on the couch or our bed if he's sitting on them. I don't care if he pees on the carpet because we have carpet cleaner, but won't the pee seep down in the couch cushions if he pees in the couch? I don't know.  The cheetos helped to get him ok with sitting on the toilet. He peed in his underwear twice, and we put a diaper on him for his nap - which he didn't take - and then finally, at the end of the night, he got scared and started to hide. I thought he had to poop, so we hurried and took him to the bathroom, put him on the toilet, and he told us to close our eyes. So we did. And he peed in the toilet! I guess he's potty shy? He peed 3 times in the toilet tonight. Either way, that gives me enough motivation to try again tomorrow. I might give up and wait longer until I'm ready - you know, with a new baby and everything else that is going on with me. We'll see.

  1. It's stressful but don't give up!! Sounds like he's catching the idea pretty quick if he peed in the toilet 3 times on the first day!!

  2. Oh good luck. If it doesn't work, don't be afraid to stop and try again in a few months. My Allison finally got it on her 3rd try and Nathan...I pushed and pushed so it took about 2 years before he stopped having accidents.
