6 months

My little girl is 6 months today. And she is absolutely adorable. I love her so much and I honestly can't imagine life without her, no matter how much grief she might have caused me the first 4 months of her life. She has made me a more loving person and a more loving mother. I needed her in my life.

She has got quite the personality. Jonas's personality as a baby was calm and observant and chill. And that was it. That was all his personality. She, on the other hand, is spirited, stubborn (I think this just runs in the family, ha ha), picky, vocal, and very particular with everything.

Here are some things she is particular about:
1. When taking a bath she has to lie down. She hates sitting in the tub. I try to sit her up to wash her hair and she pushes against me until she slips and is on her back. She loves to kick her feet in the water.

2. She has to have her arms free at night now. No more swaddling. Anytime I try to swaddle her, she puts her arms up quickly before I can even get close to swaddling tight. Plus, she has figured how to get the blanket out from being tucked tight. She kicks her legs up in the air and then slams them down on the mattress. I can hear her doing it from my bedroom. And that guarantees the blankets to come free. Needless to say, she has been fighting taking naps and going to bed because her free hands cause problems. They always take out the binky and that makes her either wake up or not go to sleep. So I have to let her whine cry for a bit and then go in there and put her binky back in and pick her up and hold her tight against me and swing my body from side to side and it helps remind her to relax and close her eyes and then I can lie her down and she'll fall asleep.

3. She will NOT roll from her back to her tummy(she's been close, but still hasn't done it). If she is playing with her feet and she rolls to her side, she immediately slams her legs on the ground so she stops her roll. And if I try to show her how to do it, she pushes against me really hard. She's pretty strong for a little baby.

4. She has to have life handed to her on a plate, and if it's not she gets mad. Seriously. For instance, when Clint gets home, he has to hold her or she will start to cry. She gets all excited and kicks her legs and flails her arms when she sees him, but if he walks out of the room without holding her she starts to cry. She'll do it to me, too, if I'm ever in that situation. And if she's playing with a toy and it gets away from her so she can't reach it, she'll cry (I'm talking about a whine cry) until someone gives it back to her. Crazy, right? She's already doing this? What is she going to do when she's 2, or even the dreaded 3? Oh my!

5. She smiles a ton, but it's so hard to make her laugh! If I get her to laugh once, and I do the thing again she just looks at me as if she's saying "I'll smile for you, but what you just did doesn't deserve another laugh.". ha ha! Jonas can get her to laugh easier than Clint and I.

Those are just some that I can think of right now. I'm sure there are a few others, I just can't remember them.

There is one cute thing that Jonas does with her. No matter what she is wearing, her pj's, a onsie, pants, or a dress, he always says "Hello Alexis, you look so cute in that dress." And he says it all high pitched and everything. He can be sweet with her sometimes. It's so cute!

She's also a really messy eater, as this picture shows. She grabs the spoon, spits out her food and her hand immediately get in her face smearing the food everywhere. I think I'm going to start feeding her without clothes because she gets it everywhere despite the fact that she has a bib on. She's tried rice cereal, oatmeal (hates both those), carrots, avacado, peas and now we're moving on to green beans and sweet potato. She'll swallow now, so that's good. But she only swallows about half a tablespoon and then she's done and just plays with her food. Silly girl.

She is so squirmy! She's constantly moving and flailing her arms and kicking her feet/legs. There are only two times where she is still. 1) when she's sleeping and 2) when I am cleaning out her ears after her bath. She is completely still. Jonas does that too after his bath when I'm cleaning his ears. I wonder why? By the way, I have to drown her in baby powder after her bath so that way she's completely dry in between all her rolls. :) Chubby girl. :)

Sleep training is going pretty good. The first night was rough. She woke up atleast 4 times and didn't like that she didn't get fed. But the other nights she'll wake up around 1ish or so and we just stick the binky back in her mouth and she'll fall asleep. She knows now that I'm not going to feed her. Or sometimes she'll stay asleep until 4:30ish and then I'll feed her then and she'll go right back to sleep. A couple nights she slept till 6 am!! Wow. But there is a problem with her sleeping till 6 am. She is wide awake after she eats, which means I'm awake. Not fun. So I decided I'd rather feed her around 4:30 or 5 am because she's still sleepy and goes right back to sleep and sleeps until 7:30 or 8. And that means I get more sleep. But she still wakes up around 1am for her binky. I think because she spits it out sometime during the night and wants it back in. So I still am getting choppy sleep, but it's not as bad as it used to be.

I'm still tired a lot because of my chopped up sleep, but oh well, right? She's completely worth it. I love my chunka monka. That's my nickname for her. It was chunky monkey, but then got shortened to chunka monka. Love her!

And good news! I can eat dairy again! It all started a couple weeks ago when I made Jonas macaroni and cheese and I wanted some so I ate 5 bites.....and nothing happened. So I slowly eased into the dairy starting with a little cheese each day, then I had pizza and then finally I had milk and she's fine, mostly. I notice she gets gassy, but she's not screaming at night or pooping her guts out and the gas doesn't seem to bother her much. It's so nice! I love pizza and I was really missing cheese. So that's cool.

And by the way, her 6 month appointment isn't for another week because her doctor is on vacation all next week. So I'll let you know her stats when I get them. I know you're all dying to find out. Ha ha!
