Project 365.........Get Excited!

Something wonderful came in the mail! It's something I've been wanting, and researching for about 3-4 months now. It's a DSLR camera. How wonderful! I'm so excited to take awesome pictures, and get a good quality picture, which my little point-and-shoot camera cannot provide for me - ever.

In case you don't know, a DLSR camera is basically one of those camera's that are professional, where you can change the shutter speed and ISO and aperture, but this one is just an entry level DSLR camera. It's a canon EOS T3 with a 50mm f/1.8 standard camera lens. Even though it's an entry level camera, my pictures will be practically 50 times better than my old point-and-shoot.

For example, look at these photos I've taken in the past. They were taken with my point-and-shoot camera, and the flash even went off to "help" the picture be better (whatever). The flash does not mean your picture will be better. They are still cute photos, but they would be so much better if I had a better camera. They are extremely underexposed, the lighting is awful, etc.

This picture is taken without the flash on my little point-and-shoot, but still - it looks grainy, and this is a better picture because he was actually holding still, so it wasn't as blurry like the other pictures I had taken without a flash.

So anyways, my new love has taken place because of Pinterest. It's basically how I've come to discover all my hobbies than I never new I had in me. And photography is now one of them. I don't care about doing it professionally, or making money off of it, I just want to be able to document my little boy's life, and get the kind of pictures that I see on the internet and blogs. Like these:

I got all these pictures from the link below on "Project 365" - taken by Shannon Joy. I mean, look at these photos, they're perfect! They have the blurry backgrounds, the subjects are sharp, they have awesome lighting. That's what I want!

Now that I've been researching, and understanding, I know I can capture those moments and get awesome pictures. Pinterest has led me to an AMAZING blog called "Click It Up A Notch". It's absolutely amazing, and it explains how to take awesome pictures, everything you need to know about photography, including the best of all, how to use manual mode in a DLSR Camera.

Which leads me to my Project 365. (All these wonderful links are to my new favorite blog) I really want to learn manual mode and how to take awesome pictures in interesting lighting, how to capture those sweet moments from Jonas, even when he's moving a ton, and, of course, documenting what I am doing with my new sweet camera, ever day, for a whole year! Hence the Project 365. Are you excited yet? I am. I'm stoked.

Every day I will write a post, including explanations, writing and of course pictures of what I'm documenting with my new camera. And all the pictures will be in manual mode.....that kind of makes me nervous, because if there isn't good lighting, it will be hard to get a picture in manual mode, but I will try. I'm mostly nervous about evening pictures because it's dark, and the lighting in our house is awful (thank you energy efficient light bulbs), but I will do it, and that is the only way I will learn. So come with me on my journey, and hopefully you will see how I progress in learning about photography, and maybe you will learn something too.

So obviously, if I go on a vacation or an unable to get to my computer for a day or two, I obviously will not post, but I will back date them, so you can still see the photos from those days.

My first day will start tomorrow, but it will be today's post, if that makes sense. Because I need all day to get the photo/photos I want to share with you from today, but I won't post till tomorrow, or tonight if I have time.

And last of all, don't expect every single photo to be awesome, because not all of them will be. But that's why I'm doing this, so I can learn. Mistakes are the best way to learn.

Enjoy!

  2. Good for you, so fun to have a hobby and definitely worth it to have really nice pictures.

I just got a point & shoot for Christmas and can't even use it because I love my other one so much.

Can't wait to see the pictures you take! BTW: in the future if you did want to be professional, great way to be a stay at home Mommy and make some money.
