Day 126 - Pumpkins

Clint loves his pumpkins, and he's especially excited that we have some that have been fertilized and are growing. His goal this year is to grow a 75 lb pumpkin. He's done all this research about how to grow big pumpkins, etc., so we'll see if it happens.

First, he found that the sun makes the pumpkin turn orange and then stops its growth, so he made this little shade thing to cover the pumpkin. He made it out of a cereal box and then put sacks over it because it had been raining. He made that a while ago and put it up about a week or so ago.

So here's our "giant" pumpkin so far. Hopefully it gets to be 75 lbs. Clint researched that each leaf on a pumpkin plant adds about 4 lbs to the pumpkin, so he's been letting the leaves go crazy everywhere and he's been covering certain parts. If you bury the vines, they will grow more roots and that adds more nutrients. He's really excited about it.
And then we have our Jack-Be-Little pumpkins. So far we have 3 of those that have been fertilized and growing and the leaves are going everywhere on this too, I bet we have more pumpkins that we can't even see. They will be fun to paint with Jonas.

  2. Nice! Be sure to keep us "posted" on the pumpkin progress! :) (And those are awesome pictures of the pumpkins...the leaves all fuzzy and then there's the pumpkin all in focus! I love how you caught the little strings of the pumpkin vine wrapping itself up the other leaf stems. So cool!)
