Day 127 - Onions

Clint went outside today to water the garden, check on it, like he does everyday, and he saw some onions that had tilted over, and the stalks looked dead, so he pulled them out. One of them had the roots all gone and it was rotting. Clint read that if the onions are left in the dirt too long then that will happen. So we pulled all of them out. Good thing there was only the one rotting. But they look amazing! Well, compared to last year they are amazing. They actually have the crusty part on the outside, whereas last year they didn't. So cool!

Jonas thought it was pretty cool pulling them out.

Clint put them all on a palette that is leaning against the house to let them dry. Last year we didn't know you had to dry them, but this year we know so much more. Thanks to my "green thumb" husband and his research. I love him and his hobbies!

Here is my post last year about our "harvest" and our lame onions. Little did we know...ha ha!

  2. Good job! Our first year growing onions was a learning experience too! We did know to dry them out but we didn't dry them long enough. We put them in the basement to store for the winter and half way through the winter I could not figure out why we had all these little fruit type flies in the house! Well...guess what...we had fruit flies loving those onions which had gone moldy and gross! Live and learn!!
